Cari Cleckler is an Alabama artist focusing primarily on functional, daily use ceramics. “Beauty in design results from purity in function” is a mantra that rings true for Cari. Creating pieces that intertwine the creative with the functional inspired the creation of Alabama Vitrified. Aiming to incorporate the story of local Alabama into her functional art, Cari set out to better understand the local clays of Alabama. After collecting and studying the different varieties of clay from around the state, Cari began testing the different types she found. By creating pottery with native clay sourced and dug from all corners of Alabama, Cari creates a snapshot of a journey that we all traverse in this great state. Each piece made with wild clay is a tether that connects the past to the artist, and the artist to you: a memory bound in mud that will last for years to come.
