Transformation

Transformation

It's a new year and my desire to "transform" a few things has been renewed.  What about you?

Today on that list is the master bedroom at Mockingbird House.  When we purchased our 1887 Victorian Farmhouse in 2022, we worked on everything but the master bedroom.   It has been more of a catch all room and just a place to sleep rather than a sanctuary.

However, for a good night's rest, don't we need a sanctuary?  A place where when we close our eyes they don't rest on clutter and disorganization?

Our homes are meant to be our sanctuary from the world.  They serve as a place to go after a long day's work to wind down and relax.  They are where we make memories with our family and friends.  Here we pile on the sofa for a movie night next to a warm fire.  The dogs snooze on the floor next to us.  The cat climbs into my lap and snuggles.  It is a place of tranquility....and then there is the master bedroom.  It is currently a place of chaos and mismatched furniture.  It has bedding with palm leaves on it.  Palm leaves in Pine Apple! We are 3 hours from anything remotely tropical!

So, this weekend, I have made it my mission to make this room into something more.  What do I have to work with?  A basic mattress on a frame.  Nothing more right now as not much will handle the turn in the stairs.  We are limited for sure in what can be used.

We did purchase a beautiful mahogany dresser that is about 200 years old.  It serves as clothing storage and gives the room warmth and character.

Then there is the antique oak wash stand that my mother refinished when I was a child.  It belonged to my great aunt, Edith.  It was painted white with blue accents.  It took my mother days if not weeks to strip all of the paint.  The result?  A gorgeous timeless piece of furniture.  I was in awe of it then and still am.  At first it seemed like a lost cause and would never be finished, but she persevered.  It was transformed and made into so much more.

A room transformed, a piece of furniture transformed, and then there is life tranformed.  Yes, we all are works in progress.  We are here for God to make us into so much more.

And so, the transformations continue...
